I stepped into the crazy world of Steve Reverb and the Sound Tones by accident. When the original drummer had to skip a show, I was casually asked if I would fill in, and stayed for two years. What I found in Matt and Eric were two fantastic musicians who wanted to simply have fun playing music inspired by their various influences. No egos. No pretention. No grand plan to become rock stars. It was a refreshing change of pace.

This, our only studio album, was captured almost entirely in one take at a Bloomington, Illinois studio that normally specialized in punk acts. "Raw" was our signature, live and on record, and that is precisely what you'll find here. The entire thing clocks in at just 26 minutes, with only one song running over 2 minutes in length (and it is a cover). Fast, definitely unpolished, and pretty much live.

Many of the songs are about the people that populated our world. "Creatures From The Black Lagoon" were a band we played with frequently. "Wildman M.C." is a reference to a friend of ours who made Jim Morrison look like a boozin' lightweight, and you'll have to ask Matt about "Peeping Tom." The rest is a random mixture of references that are all over the map.

I miss Steve Reverb and the Sound Tones. It was some of the most fun I have ever had with a band, and I want to thank Speak Up! Records for giving this little oddity from years gone by some long overdue love.

Thanks to you, too, for paying it a visit. Grab a stiff drink and enjoy!
